Satu laporan polis telah dibuat oleh Setiausaha Agung KIMMA terhadap Penasihat Pergerakan Belia India Muslim, Mohamad bin Kathir Ali yang mengadakan satu perjumpan dengan NGO India Muslim dengan tujuan menghasut dan memutarbelitkan fakta yang telah saya berikan kepada media. Beliau telah memberi kenyataan media bahawa 40 NGO hadir ke perjumpaan tersebut walhal hanya 5 dapat dikenalpasti. Ini jelas merupakan satu kenyataan palsu dalam usaha memberi gambaran yang salah kepada masyarakat umum. Tujuan laporan polis ini dibuat adalah bagi membersihkan nama saya serta mohon pihak berkuasa agar mengambil satu tindakan yang tegas mengikut lunas undang-undang terhadap pihak yang tidak bertanggungjawab ini.

There are those families who will use the bride’s dowry as their own. Often in these situations, the bride’s dowry will be recycled for the groom’s sisters’ dowry. Sometimes, the groom’s family uses the bride’s dowry entirely for their own means and the bride does not benefit from it all. There have been horrible, true stories of the groom’s family agreeing to one dowry and after the bride is married (and I might add, no longer a virgin) demanding more from the bride’s parents. Threats of divorce are often used to entice the bride’s parents to give more dowry. In a country where shame is brought down on the divorcee, parents of the bride will do whatever they can to save their daughters this shame. Occasionally, the threat of physical violence is used. There really is no way these type situations can end happily. Even if the bride’s parents are able to scrape together more dowry, they will not be able to continue doing so and in the end the bride is either sent home in shame or sometimes killed in an “accident”.
Often people do not realize the dowry system has repercussions in many different areas other than the obvious horrible one stated above. Given the fact that a girl’s parents must provide a substantial dowry plus try to give her a college education or some form of formal education today, it is not surprising that the number of girl abortions are extremely high in India. Interestingly, India theoretically is a culture which places high value on females. The females of a family are the life-blood, the pride and honor of that family. It is a very contradictory situation to see such importance placed on females and then to see the abortion rates of female babies sky high. Most college-educated Indians I have spoken to, both male and female, stand in firm objection to the dowry system and see that the twisted form it has taken is responsible for the degradation of women. In these families, girl children are just as prized as boy children and parents are teaching their daughters of their own worth as a human being.

Tujuan penyeragaman ini adalah bagi memudahkan identiti kaum India Muslim dapat dikenal pasti dengan mudah dalam statistik penduduk di negara ini. dilantik sebagai ahli Dewan Negara dan dijangka akan mengangkat sumpah dalam beberapa hari.

“Saya diberitahu Syed Ibrahim telah menerima surat lantikan tersebut Khamis lalu dan tarikh bila akan sumpah akan diketahui esok.
“Syed Ibrahim menerima lantikan tersebut dengan hati terbuka, namun saya difahamkan beliau tidak mahu perkara ini didedahkan terlebih dahulu,” kata sumber ketika dihubungi.
Syed Ibrahim ketika dihubungi The Malaysian Insider enggan mengulas sambil meminta agar menunggu sehingga tarikh angkat sumpah.
Jelas sumber itu, Syed Ibrahim hanya akan membuat kenyataan berhubung pelantikan itu selepas mengangkat sumpah.
Ini merupakan kali pertama wakil Kimma dilantik sebagai ahli Dewan Negara. Kimma ditubuhkan pada 1976.
Penghujung tahun lalu, Syed Ibrahim memohon kerajaan melantik seorang senator daripada kalangan anggota parti itu untuk mewakili kaum India Muslim negara ini.
Beliau berkata, ini kerana parti itu tidak mempunyai saluran untuk bersuara secara langsung terutama bagi menyuarakan masalah kaum India Muslim terus kepada kerajaan.
Selain itu Syed Ibrahim berkata, Kimma juga memohon kepada kerajaan agar wakil India Muslim ditempatkan di Majlis Kerajaan Negeri dan Majlis Kerajaan Tempatan supaya mereka dapat menyalurkan masalah kaum itu kepada pihak berwajib serta mendapat maklumat tentang peluang perniagaan dan perdagangan di dalam mahupun di luar negara.
Beliau juga menyarankan agar kerajaan mewujudkan satu dana khas perniagaan untuk industri kecil dan sederhana dan peniaga kecil India Muslim untuk memudahkan peniaga kecil itu mendapat dana pusingan modal bagi memulakan atau membesarkan perniagaan.
Kimma yang mendakwa ada 80,000 ahli negara telah menyatakan hasrat untuk menyertai BN semenjak 1984 tetapi gagal ekoran bantahan komponennya termasuk oleh MIC.
Ogos lepas, Umno bersetuju menerima Kimma sebagai anggota bergabung parti itu dengan beberapa keistimewaan seperti dijemput hadir sebagai pemerhati dalam perhimpunan agung dan persidangan di peringkat bahagian sekiranya parti itu mempunyai keanggotaan di kawasan berkenaan
Keseragaman inilah yang membolehkan pemimpin mereka memperjuangkan hak bagi kaum tersebut. Dalam apa jua keadaan sekalipun, budaya, adat dan bahasa mereka tidak akan terjejas sama sekali memandangkan mereka bebas mengamalkannya tanpa sebarang halangan. KIMMA tidak pernah sesekali meminta kepada kerajaan untuk menghapuskan sesuatu kaum atau etnik sepertimana yang dituduh oleh beberapa pihak di akbar-akbar dan media alternative terutamanya di Facebook.
KIMMA berpandangan bahawa setiap etnik India Muslim bebas menunjukkan identiti masing-masing tetapi haruslah ada satu keseragaman dalam pengenalan sebagai satu keturuan iaitu keturunan India Muslim. KIMMA dalam pada itu juga menyokong segala usaha etnik India Muslim dalam memastikan memelihara budaya dan adat resam serta dialek pertuturan sesuatu etnik tersebut. Sebagai contoh, entik Malabari bebas mengamalkan budaya dan adat resam serta dialek bahasa mereka agar dapat diwarisi oleh generasi akan datang. Dengan penyeragaman ini sebagai keturunan India Muslim pelbagai etnik seperti Tamil Muslim, Telegu Muslim, Urdu Muslim, Pakistan Muslim dan Malabari dapat dikenali sebagai keturunan India Muslim dimana nenek moyang kita berasal dari negara India. Sekiranya ada pihak yang mengklasifikasikan diri mereka sebagai Melayu, dan mahu dikenali sebagai Melayu, maka itu adalah hak mereka. Sebagai ahli parti gabungan Melayu terbesar di Malaysia, UMNO, KIMMA tidak akan sesekali menafikan hak mereka yang mahu dikenali sebagai Melayu.
Perlu diingat selaras dengan kedudukan saya sebagai Ahli Dewan Negara, yang mewakili kaum India Muslim di negara ini, adalah menjadi tanggungjawab saya untuk memperjuangkan nasib semua etnik India Muslim di negara ini. Sebagai kaum minoriti, kita seharunya bersatu di bawah satu platform yang kukuh dan progresif iaitu platform India Muslim. Situasi pada masa ini yang menyaksikan perkahwinan campur di antara etnik India Muslim dan bukan India Muslim telah membuka ruang asimilasi yang lebih luas. Sebagai contoh apabila berlaku perkahwinan campur diantara Tamil Muslim dan Malabari maka anak yang lahir hasil perkahwinan tersebut akan keliru tentang identiti mereka. Kekeliruan ini akan dapat diselesaikan sekiranya ada keseragaman sebagai India Muslim. Apabila proses asimilasi ini mengambil tempat maka penentuan identiti generasi akan datang akan menjadi lebih mudah jika ianya diseragamkan sebagai India Muslim.
2. Dalam pada itu juga kenyataan sesetengah pihak bahawa saya mempersoalkan penggunaan bin dan binti pada nama India Muslim jelas merupakan satu tuduhan yang melulu bagi memutarbelitkan fakta dalam usaha mejejaskan imej dan kredibiliti parti KIMMA. Tuan-tuan boleh merujuk kepada fakta tersebut dalam kenyataan media saya dalam akhbar The Star dan Utusan Malaysia yang dilampirkan . Apa yang saya katakan adalah dalam perangkaan sekiranya nama itu ada bin dan binti maka mereka diketegorikan sebagai melayu dan sekiranya nama mereka tercatat perkataan anak lelaki atau anak perempuan maka mereka ini diketegorikan sebagai bangsa India.

Skuad Jom Daftar ini akan ke setiap rumah India Muslim untuk mejalankan bancian tersebut.KIMMA menetapkan sasaran dalam tempoh 3 tahun akan datang, KIMMA akan membasmi sepenuhnya kemiskinan tegar dikalangan India Muslim. Someone can tell me that I need to be a good son, a good husband, or a good father — but no one is telling me how to actually be these things, especially through a lens of Islam. The absence of strong, male role models in society in general, and within the Muslim community in specific, makes it that much harder for a young Muslim man to know what responsibility really means religiously.
How many of us were ever taught how we’re supposed to treat women from an Islamic standpoint versus a cultural standpoint? It’s important here to not think in absolutes — meaning not knowing how to treat a woman doesn’t necessarily mean that one mistreats women. How many of us were really ever sat down and told how to respect and uphold responsibilities as young men and then saw those words manifest themselves into actions by the male figures who we looked up to while growing up? If I don’t know what my responsibility is as a young man, how will I really know what to look for when I am trying to find a woman to spend the rest of my life with? More importantly, why would anyone want to marry me?

I travel a lot for speaking engagements and on a recent trip to the south a few months back I was approached by an elderly man in his 70s after one of the lectures I gave at his mosque. He asked me if I could speak to him in private and when we sat down he began to cry. He said that when he was younger, his father hardly spoke to him and only really engaged him when he did something wrong. He was always very somber and distant, and this man found himself being the same way with his wife and children after he got married. His wife left him eventually and then his children stopped talking to him. He said his father never seemed happy in his marriage or with his children and so he didn’t think it was a big deal that his own marriage wasn’t a happy one and that he never tried to be a part of his own kids’ lives. Now, after seven decades of living, he was alone, had no idea how to bring them back in his life, and regrets not ever learning how to be better for them.
In the Quran, the prophet Abraham, peace be upon him, is referred to in Arabic as fata, a young, noble man who knows how to handle his responsibilities. His sense of integrity and commitment are remarkable. From this word fata is derived the Arabic word, futuwwa, which essentially translates as chivalry. Being gentle, loyal, modest, honest, compassionate, humble, trustworthy and selfless is having futuwwa. In the medieval period of Islam, orders were established around this principle of futuwwa that emphasized members uphold these traits and seek to serve society, putting their needs after the needs of those around them. They would teach young men how to honor their responsibilities while today we are forced to figure it out on our own. Chivalry is in our tradition. We just have to embrace it again and empower individuals to be those role models that our communities desperately need.
I have always been impressed by an undergraduate club at NYU called “The Gentlemen of Quality”. Their mission statements reads:
“We, the Gentlemen of Quality, are a brotherhood dedicated to the principles of leadership, service, and scholarship. We seek the academic, social, and cultural enhancement of our communities, irrespective of race, color, creed, and religion. We recognize, respect, and affirm the diverse backgrounds that bring us together to positively impact the NYU community. We aspire to set standards that will be built upon by future leaders. Through these principles we strive to Keep Inspiring and Nurturing a Gentleman’s Spirit.”
The Muslim community needs a similar program or organization for young men that emphasizes and redefines success and achievement for us in terms of character, not just simply job titles, credentials and salaries. Patterns of emerging adulthood are much later these days in men across diverse backgrounds than they were years ago. Meaning the maturity of an 18 year old today isn’t the same at his counterpart from twenty or thirty years ago. Our communities need to bring in well-rounded individuals who understand youth development as a science and build programs from an early age that help boys embrace their sense of responsibility. We should hire professionals in this regard and not rely on volunteers, as good as their intentions might be.
Of course much of the same can be said about women, but I don’t think we need to always present both sides of an issue. It sometimes justifies for us our complacency. This isn’t meant to be a “well girls also need to be better moment” as much as it’s not meant to be a “let’s hate on men moment.” Islam is about learning to deal with reality and the reality is we right now have many issues around marriage in the Muslim community. Race and ethnicity, culture, socio-economic realities, divorce, ego, domestic violence, mental health issues, pornography, adoption, infertility, loyalty, intimacy, communication, fidelity, in-laws, and much more are all things that can be a part of this discussion. Unfortunately, Ramadan is only a month long and this conversation is much longer than that. Perhaps after a month of fasting, spiritual reflection, and contemplation we’ll be ready to have it.
The first decade of the twenty-first century is over. One stint of the third millennium is gone. May be it was a challenging time for Muslims. But, when it was not? Perhaps, more such times are in store. More challenges would be waiting for us to respond. Many sleepless nights and tiring days await our mettle. The past looks like a horrific epoch, the present is also testing our perseverance and attentiveness but the future might be mindboggling and evermore callous. We are not sure what is there for us with the Providence. But, we cannot escape the falling days. We have to live them. We have to live every moment of them. Here comes the question, how?
Muslims have the largest denominational population in the world. They have 56 countries to boast of. They are custodians of immense natural resources. They have the culture which had left indelible marks on human history. They have the religion which attracts thousands of souls every year from a cross section of humanity in spite of the venomous propaganda against it. Then, what lacks?
Externally, Muslims are deficient in only one thing. They are not dexterous to break the shell of imposed segregation. Through systematic propaganda and deployment of ‘Muslim’ elements for a realistic show, the hegemonic forces have created the confusion among Muslims as well other fellow beings that they are enemies to each other. Muslims think that they are in the whirlwind of an insurmountable hatred and animosity perpetuated by ‘others’; whereas ‘others’ are made to believe that if there is any problem in the world, it is the Muslims. This vertical division of humanity into supposedly two incompatible worlds is the real strength and success of the well known hegemonic forces.
Internally, Muslims are also deficient in only one thing. They have lost their faith in themselves. They are made to think that they cannot acquire a steering wheel. They must better follow others since they are ‘backwards’. They live in past. They are fragmented. They are heavily dependent on others’ contribution. They are humanity’s burden. They are not creative. They are not contributory. They have no future role and therefore no future at all.
A deeper analysis would make it clear that these two deficiencies are actually nothing but only one dilemma; rather the byproducts one thing, the ‘identity crisis’. Like a patient suffering from amnesia, neither we are recognizing ourselves nor our surroundings in a better way. We have forgotten that we are the creation of an assignment. Our only identity is our sensitivity towards that assignment. Without engaging ourselves in that assignment we are really nothing. The Qur’an has beautifully spelled out this assignment in these words “Ye are the benevolent people raised for mankind”. So, without benevolence to humanity we are naught, just zero.Our journey beyond ‘now’ must incorporate this key aspect of our very existence as a Muslim. Our any quantum of benevolence towards others would unfold a friendly world around. Our very thinking towards that end would purify our spirits and energize us for taking up the assignment in the right earnest. It will break the shell of segregation and it will give meaning to our life. It will give us the positive strength we are craving for. It will set our mission right. It will do wonders with us and others. The stronger we join ourselves with others the weaker the divisive forces will be. The fervently we engage ourselves with others the faster we will raise our mission.
Our struggle to have cognizance of our own identity has the real worth for our future. Right now we have the sense of identity but the wrong identity. We are just not a tribe, a caste, a community, or a nation but a proactive humanity, calledUmmah. There could be only two groups within humanity, proactive and reactive. Presently we are on the other side of our identity. If we are just reactive we are not part of the Ummah. If we are not proactive we are not part of the Ummah. Let us join Ummah by becoming proactive at our own level. Let us join Ummah by opening our warm arms for everyone. Let us join Ummah by feeling concern for every suffering soul. Let us join Ummah by becoming people-oriented as desired in the very definition of Ummah, i.e. Ummah lin-Nas (the group for People).
The human engagement is our panacea. Our mission! Our future!! Our journey beyond now!!!

KIMMA GOT KIMA-ED BY MUNAFIK UMNO
The Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) is now an associate member of Umno, with observer status at the party’s general assembly, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

Najib was speaking at a press conference after the Umno supreme council meeting here Friday.
On another matter, the Prime Minister also cautioned Malaysians not to react to the anti-Malaysia demonstrations in Jakarta which he said were the acts of paid mercenaries to disrupt bilateral ties.
Najib also warned people against spinning half-truths on racial issues and painting the perception that Government practised selective prosecution.
If you are an average Muslim living in North India (say Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand,West Bengalor Orissa) you could be forgiven for asking “Are there Muslim political parties?” After all, you have had to choose between a BJP candidate or a Congress candidate or a regional party candidate mostly. And all you know of Muslim political parties are that they are rumored to exist.
If you are better informed and know that there are indeed Muslim political parties, in fact quite a few of them – then you might ask “What are Muslim political parties?” as in: what are they supposed to do? Who are they supposed to represent? Who are their leaders? And most important of all: what will they do for me? Where ‘me’ stands for you, the common Muslim.
But first what exactly is this thing, a Muslim political party?
“Muslims are a community with common social and political problems which can be better addressed by a political party whose leadership is in the hands of Muslims,” says Qasim Rasul Ilyas, a member of the Jamaat e Islami’s Central Advisory Committee. “Congress and other secular parties do not work for Muslims because they see it as going against their secular character.”
That answers the ‘why’ of the issue. But there are other, more complicated questions that bedevil the very idea of a ‘Muslim’ political party. Questions of leadership (does it exist?), viability (Muslims are a majority in very few constituencies), clerical domination (middle class is busy in career planning), lack of education, and of too many divisions within the community itself.
Now, depending on who you talk to, there are many ways of answering these questions.
